Serial Slices - Masking Tape and Aqua-Epoxy Coating Applied
Iridescent, metallic paints, glass beads, and textures added
Shown with a rainbow of custom cast resin dragonfly wings that are used to create chandelier hanging components
Additional modeling paste added as texture to hide hanging hardware
Galvanized steel wire added on top surface
to provide hanging support for crystals
Steel Stik Epoxy putty was used to adhere galvanized wire to structure.
Light canopy hardware added to ceiling, to hide hanging hardware and electrical cords. After orienting, wires were added to stabilize the position. Tuile Ribbon used to hide hanging chains and hardware.
Tuile ribbon was added to hide hardware on top surface
Copper mini-string lights with 8 pattern settings and a remote are used as the lighting elements.
Rare-earth magnets and fishing line were used to hang crystals and dragonfly wings, all are repositionable.
Final Chandelier, the inner surface of Voronoi cells were painted with metallic silver paint to reflect lights downward.
Pink, Purple, Clear glass crystals are hung alongside the custom resin cast dragonfly wings. Fishing-line and rare-earth magnetic jewelry clasps allow all dangles to be repositioned.

Mini-Wings with voids - 2 Part Mold
The grasshopper dragonfly wings were created using smaller scaled curves, and the partitioning layer was removed so voids pierce in the structure. In Rhino, torus rings were added to form hanging rings. The wing was scaled to 2 inch size, then a mirror version was created to form a left / right pair for earrings.
The high-detailed
frosted detail plastic print was ordered from Shapeways. In addition, a
HP nylon plastic black wing was ordered. These materials allow for the narrowest part thickness, most materials weren't available as options due to the thin walls in some portions of the Voronoi wing structure. The frosted acrylic is very brittle, and easily broken, but it's quite beautiful.
Mini-dragonfly wings: 2 printed versions are clear and black. Two resin-cast versions were created using the 2-part mold. The original wing is used to show scale, each small wing is about 2 inches long.
A 2-part mold was created using
Dragon skin 2-part silicone mold, the very-fast version was used for the second part of the mold and was poured directly on the other silicon half, it does not stick to cured silicone. The initial casts had problems due to fine detail. By removing details from the mold that were causing the most obstruction, a workable mold was created. Finish work is necessary to pierce some of the voids. I plan to create a new 2-part mold after my dog ate one-half of the mold.
