Wood Lorin: Weeks 1-3 Deacon

This was the initial sculpt which was executed on my iPad in the application Nomad. I was more interested in interesting forms than a coherent, aesthetically pleasing design. As with all of my art, it was not finished so I continued to refine the shapes into the following final sculpt. I called it the "deacon" due to its semi-religious shape.

Process

Once the mold duplicates had been completed, I used a custom jig that was thrown together in a minute which included a rubber brace with which I could place the bust and do some clean-up work with a Dremel.

As it turned out a substantial air bubble produced a mold without a chin. I decided to run with it and create a more feminine bust to compliment the "male" robot deacon.

Holes were also drilled into the bases of the busts and a brace was glued inside so that it could be twisted onto a screw and levitate the sculpts above their bases. The tips of the screws were also coated with raw candle wax to permit easier removal while the epoxy was drying inside.

Completion (?)

"Male" deacon

"Female" deacon

The process continues. There will be updated and refined paint and detailing work...
