Week 6 Blog

Task: Create multiple urethane plastic casts of both of the 3D models using both the Block & Brush On Molds

Process: Casting, Pouring “plastic” into BOTH the block model and relief mold

Tools: Smooth On Urethane Liquid Plastic Products
(Got these three new trial kits from RAM, Thanks Amanda!)

1.     Smooth-Cast ONYX FAST             (2.5 min / 10-15 min)   (pot life / cure time)
* (to replace the ONYX SLOW which I was given by mistake)
2.     Smooth-Cast 300 Bright White  (3.0 min / 10 min)   (pot life / cure time)
3.     Smooth-Cast 325 Clear               (2.5 min / 10 min)   (pot life / cure time)

The Fun begins !!

Pour, Pour, Pour !!
Onyx Blacks, Bright White, Tinted Clears !! Combos!!

Got some ‘foamy’ pieces from old 305 in the Studio. Lesson for extended shelf life Smooth Cast.

Images of Pour/Cast Week are below

One of the biggest lessons I have learned so far is that using sharp 3D model edges like Spock pointy ears and noses are iffy in the whole process. The resolution of the Molding & Casting suffers dramatically with such shapes.
